Garden Goals: Once we have the garden all set we will be able to accomplish our goals.
- Plant Unit - to provide a space where students can learn about plants and how to grow and take care of them.
- Journey North Tulips - Use tulips to track the seasons.
- Create a Monarch Way Station
- Composting
- Provide a space for students in which it’s pleasing to be, for example art classes, other science classes, picnic in the garden...
- Site Preparation: Four garden areas have been established at our new building. Adequate drainage of the area was a need and has been remedied. There are areas in which the proper soils for the garden spots is still needed. Automatic sprinkling system has been installed in the area.
- Garden Plan: A garden plan has been made by a professional landscape architect in order to meet the goals above.
- Plants: A mixture of perennials and annuals will be used. They will be selected according to the goals for the project. See the plant list.
- Tools: Students and teachers will need gardening tools in order to do their work in the garden... See the list of needs and wants.
- Time: Students will use time in class to accomplish the learning objectives linked to the garden. Teachers/volunteers will require an additional 100 hours per year to maintain the garden in order to make it usable for students.
